The philosophy project was created and based off of these frequently asked questions like what is the purpose of your existence on earth? What does it mean to live a meaningful life? And more. After learning many ways people can find purpose in this world, I started to think about my own purpose and what things give me meaning. I searched for that and when I found it I wanted to base my project based on how nature can give this amount of peace and serenity in a person. That when you look at the small things in nature you see that everything has a purpose and I do to. As well as how human connection is lost now a days and that true human connection can make someone feel loved. When creating this project to write poetry and draw I wasn’t exactly answering a specific question other than what my purpose is and how does nature as well as human connection effect that. What inspired me to go this route is first with nature, I have always loved being out in nature. It's hard to wrap around my head how God can make something like huge mountains. I always seem to feel like my best self when I am out in nature, that's why I am always hiking, backpacking, skiing, and more. The topic human connection was really important for me, this year I struggled a lot with parents and having that human connection was something that helped me handle the situation better than before. It has helped me cope, that's why I wanted to stress that we need human connection.
“I read somewhere how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong.” Chris Mccandless said. This quote has definitely shaped my view on life and my purpose on this earth. Reading this book was definitely an eye opener, there was so much to this story than just taking away that “happiness is real when shared.” This quote was something that made me reflect a lot on my own life. I came to this realization that throughout my life I have faced so many challenges as well as celebrations. When you take a look at me, you would see me as a person who is probably weak, sensitive, and so much more. However from the inside I am stronger than ever. Every challenge I have had to face made me stronger than ever, I may fall because its life it happens but it is the ones that pick themselves up who come out stronger. It opened my eyes to what we should view ourselves, instead of weak we see ourselves as strong. Along with that, when in nature you are pushed to your limits you come to realisation but through reflecting and new experiences you can transcend.
Now that I have somewhat of an idea of what my philosophy, what am I wondering now? I know that things can change several times, who knows I might change my philosophy my purpose on this earth many times. For now though what I am wondering is what is my future going to look like? How is my faith going to change? I know living in the present is the healthiest way to look at things but, the future can be totally different than I expecting. Through reading Into The Wild the biggest question that I have been curious about is that Chris Mccandless went out into nature to be away from people, he didn’t want to interact with people. But he also said “happiness is only real when shared” so can you have happiness by being away from people and have human connection, is it possible to have both? Sometimes this might be something I need to find for myself because everyone is different. The future will come soon and once I reach that I just keep moving forward.
The Ethics and Chemistry of Food and Cooking
Reflection:
The food ethics project was a project that mixed both chemistry and humanity classes, by learning about the food production system and create are own food ethic. As well as forming an experiment based on the science behind food and cooking. The main essential questions students were given the task to answer is How would you characterize your personal food ethic? How do we characterize America’s relationship with food? And finally How does food in America get from the source to your plate? In humanities specifically we did tons of research on the food process so when it came time to write about our own food ethic we would know what our personal food ethic is. For chemistry the main essential question was whatever each student chose to do for the there individual project. The project in chemistry aloud students to learn the science behind cooking and view cooking and science as basically the same thing. While also learning how to write a scientific paper on our own.
By making the food project a interdisciplinary project I felt that it helped us learn more than what I should be eating. We could understand the chemistry behind food and the process behind it. When mixing chemistry and humanities we got to understand through chemistry what is fresh and healthy food while also following the food you eat back to the source. To be honest I felt like I learned more in humanities about ways you can have fresh produce that is cheap, how I can look on a label to determine if its truly fresh or not, how you can implement sustainable farming and techniques of successful farms. I say this because I feel that I could relate to it more than science and form my own ethic based off of what I learned. The science by food was interesting to learn however I felt I had a lot more takeaways than my recipe card project.
My main takeaways from the food project is that there is a huge difference between “fresh” and truly fresh. You will know because you can for sure taste the difference, it may take a good experience in order to see that but, once you taste it you don’t want to go back. Once you go fresh you will feel like your best self, more energized and happy. Most of the time people say it is hard to buy fresh produce because its expensive and that is sometimes true cause I have had those issues myself. However there are ways you can avoid paying tons of money by growing your own farm or garden at your house. After this project I have realized I need to take care of my body by eating healthier food. Now I replace foods that contains tons of carbs with healthier alternatives and it has definitely change my diet for the better.
